ABOUT DAVID CASTLE

I create works of art inspired by the variety of mountain and urban terrain found in Colorado and throughout my extensive travels in North America and Europe. Since all of my work is, to some degree abstract, I've found that I create from my exposure to the colors and shapes of these very different places. Whether a "14er" mountaintop in Colorado, the rugged Oregon coast or tiny ancient towns nestled in the hills of Belgium, these images are what inspire my art and guide my paints.

My current work is a series of watermedia abstracts inspired by my annual winter retreats on the Oregon coast and "leaf peeping" trips to New England. The colors I work with come from the coolness of the Pacific Northwest coast in winter - blues, greens and purples -- and the bright splashes of lush Portland gardens and vivid Tillamook cheeses. Autumn in New England also provides me with a rich, intense palette of the blazing fall colors. My senses from these places give me a place to start with each work and guide me in mixing water, color, air and gravity to create my art.

I'm a former corporate technology guy - after 14 years in the technology industry, I finally struck out on my own path. I'm now a full-time artist and maintain a great studio space in the heart of Denver's Art District on Santa Fe, just south of downtown Denver.
